Nachdem Gerhard Rohlfs 1974 die 7. Auflage publiziert hatte, wurde diese fur die 8. Auflage erneut einer sorgfaltigen Revision unterzogen. Erganzugen und Verbesserungen ergaben sich vor allem in der Bibliographie, geringfugige Modifikationen im Text und im Glossar. Eine vertiefte Beschaftigung mit der Chanson de Roland erfordert einen Vergleich der Oxforder Handschrift mit der kritischen Ausgabe von Cesare Segre (1971), uberarbeitet und in franzoesischer UEbersetzung von Madeleine Tyssens (1989).
