Christian Daniel Rauch und Ernst Rietschel: Der Briefwechsel 1829-1857

For almost thirty years, from 1829 to 1857, the correspondence between the famous Prussian sculptor Christian Daniel Rauch and his favorite student Ernst Rietschel, who quickly rose to become a successful sculptor in Dresden, Saxony. The extensive correspondence, marked by unreserved trust and great friendship, is now available in a new edition commented on for the first time. It proves to be extremely revealing for the art history of the 19th century, and it is an almost indispensable source especially for Berlin and Dresden sculpture. But it also allows today’s reader to take part in the political and social events and upheavals of the time and gives him deep insights into the world of thought and the family life of the two artists.
