Cross, and Capt. Beitzel, of the United States Army, were found very convenient for reference. Nearly twelve years having elapsed since the last of these editions was issued, there existed a great necessity for a new compilation, which would correct some errors and omissions of the former publications, and include all the Military enactments from 1846 to the present date.
