Radar is an acronym for Radio Detection and Ranging. An object detection system that transmits electromagnetic waves and analyses the echoes coming from the objects. Radar can operate in any weather conditions (e.g. darkness, fog, rain). Radar can perform its function at short and long ranges. Radar can provide measurements in high accuracy. Radar signal processing can be defined as the manipulation of the received signal, represented in digital format, to extract the desired information whilst rejecting unwanted signals. In particular, a surveillance radar takes a decision about the presence or absence of targets whilst cancelling radar echoes caused by ground clutter, radio frequency interference and noise source.
