Landscape painting often shows more than meets the eye. Against this background, Sybille Heidenreich leads us on a sensitive journey through art history and opens up new perspectives on its expressiveness with the ‘Ecological Eye’. The aesthetic effect of the images creates imaginary spaces for dealing with nature and displays early signs of destructive developments: unrestrained industrialization, damage to ecosystems and climate catastrophes. The examples shown, for example by Durer, Monet and van Gogh, provide information about how today’s ecological crisis situations came about and offer valuable food for thought on the subject of sustainability.
