The edition brings together instructions, regulations and other functionally related sources from the Lower Austrian manors Feldsberg (now Valtice, Czech Republic) and Wilfersdorf of the Liechtenstein family. Over a period from 1600 to 1815, these normative texts offer an insight into the lifeworld of rural society and the interplay of landlords, rulers and subjects. They exemplify which areas of life the aristocratic landlords of the Austrian states tried to regulate and standardize, how they, together with their rulers, created an increasingly regulated, social, economic and cultural microcosm, how this ideally functioned and should be maintained.
