Das Handbuch verbindet zwei Ziele. Erstens geht es um die interdisziplinar von aktuellen Debatten in den Sozial- und den Kulturwissenschaften angeregte Neukonzeptualisierung der Kategorie ‘Haus’. Zweitens wird dem Publikum ein europaisches Panorama der Forschung im Hinblick auf Haus, Haushalt und Hauslichkeit in seinen historischen Dimensionen vorgelegt. Dies geschieht notwendigerweise ausschnitthaft, d.h. durch Konzentration auf ausgewahlte und massgebliche Aspekte.
