Mit dem vorliegenden Band wird der 1984 erschienene Band uber die Hildesheimer Bischoefe von Hans Goetting fortgesetzt (GS NF 20). Behandelt werden die Bischoefe von Konrad II., dem letzten Bischof der sachsischen Bistumsstadt, der auf Reichsebene tatig war, bis Gerhard von Schalksberge, dessen lange Regierungszeit von 1365 bis 1398 das Bistum stabilisierte. In diese Periode fallen der Aufbau des Hochstiftes Hildesheim und zahlreiche Konflikte mit den lokalen Kraften, von denen vor allem die welfischen Herzoege von Braunschweig-Luneburg zu nennen sind.
