Why write a collection of short stories centred around real estate? Because there’s a strong connection between the home and the self. What I mean is that the home is a reflection of the soul. It’s where we ‘abide’, where we forge connections and affirm our values. Also and above all, the home is where we belong, our frame of reference, our roots, our relationship with the soil and with the world. I’m something of an ecologist and that applies equally to interiors. In the words of the philosopher, we must each cultivate our own garden. To cultivate is to grow. We often forget that the grower must first sow and only then can they evolve. Rather like an entrepreneur, in fact. Entrepreneurship is an adventure. Mine consists of facilitating meaningful exchanges, of connecting those on a quest for their origins with those who are passing on the fruits of a moment lived. Bringing together life-changers and treasure-hunters is wonderful work. It’s about trading in dreams and realities. Dreams are the stuff of possibilities - and of the senses. Reality is earthbound but I’m at ease there because, you see, I’m not just a broker, I’m like the falconer who casts his eyes upwards to see the beauty of the world. In my work I need my feet on the ground and my soul in the air. Insight must not just be rational but instinctive because, to search for a home, you need to start by discovering what makes you unique. Treasure exists only inasmuch as we can see it sparkle. I wanted to write about that.
