La Gaiete, Caractere Francais ?: Representer La Nation Au Siecle Des Lumieres (1715-1789)

A myth which has become attached to the eighteenth century, French gaiety was, for Voltaire’s contemporaries, a literary and anthropological stereotype. By way of it, the approach taken here allows us to follow the progressive consecration of national representation in the field of law.
