This first volume of the Cahiers de latelier Aigyptos gathers together the papers presented during the two first days of study organized by the Aigyptos association, the first on The city and the village in Ptolemaic and Roman Egypt (June 23, 2007) and the second on Ptolemaic Egypt in the Mediterranean, Oriental, and African areas (June 21, 2008). The Aigyptos association was founded on June 23, 2007 at the end of that first day of study. The association brings together researchers, teachers, and students whose work focuses on Egypt from the Saitic to the Byzantine periods. Its goal is to enable its members to have access to a wide variety of different sources, from literary and documentary texts (papyrological or epigraphic) in Greek and in Egyptian (demotic, hieratic, and hieroglyphic) to archeological, numismatic, and iconographic documents.
