Charles-Louis Cadet de Gassicourt, est un pharmacien, ecrivain et goguettier francais, fils illegitime de Louis XV. Il fut Premier Pharmacien de Napoleon Ier. Tout au long de ces annees, il mene egalement une carriere de polygraphe a succes, commettant diverses pieces a l'humour facile et bon enfant qui plaisent au public: Le souper de Moliere (1795), Proverbe ultra-bete, La Visite de Racan, comedie-vaudeville en un acte (Paris, 1798) etc. A ses heures perdues, Cadet de Gassicourt s'essaye aussi a l'histoire. On lui doit Le Tombeau de Jacques de Molay, ou Histoire secrete et abregee des inities anciens et modernes, templiers, francs-macons, illumines (Paris, 1797) duquel est tire une version courte que nous republions a travers cet ouvrage.
