Tout au long de ces annees, il mene egalement une carriere de polygraphe a succes, commettant diverses pieces a l'humour facile et bon enfant qui plaisent au public: Le souper de Moliere (1795), Proverbe ultra-bete, La Visite de Racan, comedie-vaudeville en un acte (Paris, 1798) etc. A ses heures perdues, Cadet de Gassicourt s'essaye aussi a l'histoire. On lui doit Le Tombeau de Jacques de Molay, ou Histoire secrete et abregee des inities anciens et modernes, templiers, francs-macons, illumines (Paris, 1797) duquel est tire une version courte que nous republions a travers cet ouvrage.
