Mais la jeune mariee s'enfuit avec Charles de Ricordam, son ami d'enfance.Dans le meme temps, son tresor cache dans les souterrains du chateau lui est derobe. Il fait alors appel a la perspicacite de Robert de Bonmoulins. Le voleur sera demasque tandis que le seigneur finira par marier ses filles selon leurs gouts, malgre quelques petites difficultes que doit resoudre l'abbe de La Trappe.
