One Day at the Welcome Centre

Blue wants to write a book about the women’s shelter her mom works at, and sets out to spend the day at the shelter doing research before she puts pen to paper! While there, Blue sees women, kids, and shelter staff, working through housing search, intakes into shelter, accessing programs, and supporting one another. What will she take away for her book? What will leave a lasting impression? Filled with visuals from inside the Welcome Centre Shelter for Women and based on the real-life learning of one little girl who aspires to be a writer, this storybook addresses issues of homelessness and emergency shelter honestly and simply. A question and reflection section, for both caregivers and children, gives some direction as to where to expand your conversations and advocacy with kids in your own community or family.
