THE PRICE OF FREEDOM #1 - Unlikely Allies A historical Fiction This book, is the opening volume of a historical fiction trilogy in which the author delves into the journey of two individuals escaping a dictatorship and their struggles to find acceptance in Canada. Set in the spring of 1967, it follows Rocky Goergey and Kira Chopaky, former high school classmates with vastly different backgrounds, as their paths converge on a train heading to Eger. Rocky Goergey, a 20-year-old from an aristocratic family, is on his way to celebrate his acceptance into the University of England's engineering faculty. However, he discovers that his passport to England comes with a catch: he must instead move to Canada and persuade a CIA-affiliated relative to join him in Toronto. Kira Chopaky, on the other hand, grapples with the rejection of her Canadian Visitor's visa application. As the daughter of the former Budapest's police chief, her journey takes a significant turn after meeting Rocky and experiencing a series of dramatic events, including a rejected suicide attempt and a consequential meeting that leads her to Toronto on a visitor's visa.

In Toronto, Kira's life spirals from a fairy-tale wedding to a nightmarish marriage, resulting in her hospitalization and a near-deportation, only to be saved by a rabbi. She finds solace in a rooming house owned by Baroness Lipnitsky, where, unbeknownst to her, Rocky is also a resident. Their lives intertwine further when they collaborate to outmaneuver Hungarian Secret Agents on Halloween, leading to a reconnection with past acquaintances and a confrontation with their intertwined fates, including the birth of Kira's child, fathered by Rocky.

The narrative escalates with the arrival of Rocky's father, Andre Goergey, who, after receiving a diplomatic passport under peculiar circumstances, comes to Toronto. He meets his grandson, Adam Chopaky Goergey, and witnesses Kira's battle with post-traumatic disorder amid a backdrop of political intrigue and personal trials.

"The Price of Freedom #1 - "Unlikely Allies" weaves a tale of love, betrayal, and the quest for freedom, set against the backdrop of political upheaval and the personal challenges of adapting to a new life in Canada.
