This book was written by a nurse, about nurses and the nursing profession. It follows the life of the author as she leaves her native country Guyana, to begin her nursing career in England. Trained as a Nurse, Psychiatric Nurse and Midwife, the author has worked in various nursing positions in England, the USA and Canada. After undergoing knee surgery followed by a lengthy convalescence in a rehabilitation center, she was forced to confront the ugly side of nursing, and this aroused in her a desire to pen this enlightening and relevant text. BEHIND THE SCENES IN NURSING, described as a nursing tell-all memoir, is indeed an insightful and shocking revelation of what takes place behind drawn curtains, in cubicles, on admission and assessment units, in labour and delivery rooms, in medication rooms and in staff lounges. It depicts how nurses work against all odds to ensure a safe, caring and protective environment for all patients, but it also shows a somewhat dark side of the profession. While exploring some of the issues within the healthcare system that has long plagued the nursing profession, the author proffers possible solutions by focusing on practical improvements that can be made. This book is not just for nurses but for doctors, medical students and all employed in healthcare as well as the curious public.
