This collection of short stories explores themes rooted in Mormon doctrine and folklore, all centered around the concept of worthiness. Featuring a blend of satire, supernatural intrigue, and the reality of Mormon living, each narrative offers a unique perspective on the challenges and tribulations inherent to life in and around the church.

In Beneath the Stage, 11 year-old Timothy prepares to become a deacon. He soon finds that the covenant path is fraught with obstacles, and his progression falters. When he discovers a supernatural being living in the darkness beneath the stage of the chapel, he must decide whether or not to accept its offer of help.

The Blessing unfolds as the Grayson family endures a medical crisis, and hopes that a priesthood blessing will turn the tide in their favor. The story is told from the perspective of three different characters, each of whom is left to ponder the final outcome, and their role in it.

In Sector 69-G, Ruben is ecstatic to be resurrected after a long sojourn in spirit prison, only to learn that his mediocre performance in mortality has left him unfit for the Celestial Kingdom. At first, life in the lower kingdoms seems paradisiacal, but he soon learns there are limitations to his lower-class immortality.
