The open road called, but Cole Charles Pecker did not want to hear. "Cole, the rules of this road trip are simple," Grace told her little brother. "The rules are that Peckers take their medication. Bad things happen when we don't."

Under the guardianship of his sister, twenty-four-year-old Cole Charles Pecker sets out on a journey to California, where the two siblings can escape the recent tragedies of their past.

The destination is a mysterious commune, where Grace Pecker will serve as a nurse for a team of like-minded social justice warriors. Cole Pecker just wants to go home and farm his land.

In their mother's old van, the two siblings set out as near strangers, but Grace vows to change that and be a big sister to a little brother she has not known for years.

Grace seems determined to make things right with her brother, no matter what obstacles stand in their way, but taking care of a brother with special needs might not be as simple as she thinks.
