The atrocities and crimes committed by the schismatics and heretics of 16th Century tend to be glossed over in most widely read histories. One the one hand, followers of Protestantism are not keen to recognize these acts of violence themselves; and Catholics, perhaps in a misguided spirit of generosity and tolerance, generally do not dwell upon them.
