The Kid Chronicles is an anthology of short stories embedded in a novel. I wrote the book this way for a few reasons. First, I incorporated the short stories to entertain the reader while highlighting social issues. Each short story teaches a lesson that is relevant to the life of a pre-teen and teenager living in an urban area.
?????Secondly, the main story is aimed to heal mother-son relationships that have been fractured by the stress and strain of the son's misbehavior at school. Some urban schools are plagued with behavior problems that interfere with the learning process, and many educators and parents struggle with finding ways to address undesirable behavioral patterns at school.
???? The main story shows how a mother and son can maintain a healthy relationship or recharge the relationship after a setback. Mothers learn to support boys in making healthy choices at school.
???? Lastly, the short stories and the main story have content reflective of situations that many young people face, such as: coping after a tragedy, handling conflict with a classmate, managing grief, developing self-control and controlling impulsivity.?
???? The book is full of violent situations, so it is imperative that parents or adults read the book before allowing young readers to read the book. Hopefully, the interaction between the mothers and sons will start healthy conversations that will bring healing and understanding.
