The central characters are Eikahi (one in Hawaiian) and Elua (two in Hawaiian) O'Donnell, twin brothers of Hawaiian Irish descent. Eikahi believes in Hawaiian sovereignty, returning the Queen's Kingdom to the Hawaiian people stolen by the U.S. Elua, a captain in the U. S. Army, does not. He is an American patriot. Wrapped into the story is a love relationship been Elua and Sunshine Dunne, which adds drama to the tale. Eikahi believes she should marry him.
