Victoria wakes up for her sixteenth birthday hoping for a betrothal. Instead, she finds out that her uncle Thomas has been keeping a secret about her past and why she came to live with him fourteen years ago. While there are layers of secrets yet to be learned, she discovers enough to know that she will not be married for a long, long while.

Meanwhile, Victoria's best friend Rupert is struggling with his own destiny; he is about to turn eighteen, and once he does, he will be a full-fledged sorcerer. Traveling with Victoria, these two childhood friends must face their destinies together or be separated from the lives they knew forever. Along with Victoria's boyfriend, the three must work to take back the kingdom from the evil sorcerer Kybon and his nefarious plans to start a civil war. Will these young heroes have the strength and courage to shape not only their own destinies but the fate of the entire world?

Veronica has been writing her whole life. She lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with her husband Adrian and their dog Boba Fett. She received a BA in Creative Writing at Louisiana State University in 2004. She currently works as a reading interventionist at a wonderful charter high school in Baton Rouge. She enjoys helping kids improve their reading skills because she had really great teachers that helped her cope with dyslexia.
