An angel, Jetebais, chooses to leave heaven with Satan and the other fallen ones, arrogantly seeking independence and autonomy. When God wipes the earth clean to begin what we know as Creation, Jetebais expects to be welcomed home to heaven. When this does not happen, he becomes furious and joins with Satan to influence mankind to commit unspeakable evil. He especially follows and influences the descendants of one biblical figure until the modern day when he is forced to confront the fruitlessness of his actions. He fills with remorse and sets out to confess his transgressions and expose Satan before Satan discovers his plan. He begins to dictate his confession to a sleeping priest who eventually wakes him and joins with Jetebais to complete the plan. The story culminates in Rome where the forces of good and evil, both inside and outside The Vatican have battled for centuries.
