Dorothy Travis broke the glass ceiling to become the first woman to establish a Christian-centered private African American school exclusively for adolescent boys in urban Milwaukee. History was indeed made, not because Dr. Travis wanted her place in historical archives-but because she wanted the paradigm to shift in children lives. Many awards, certificates and pictures adorn her office, Dr. Travis is an accomplished woman who knows higher education is the gateway to changing the future of children who otherwise would not survive. Dr. Travis talks from an instructional, practical and spiritual perspective for anyone in education to glean from. This academician has been a Milwaukee fixture for many years. Highly respected a well-spoken Dr. Travis was challenged in her own youth by her mother to make a difference and by God’s grace-she did.
