Southworth Mining is exploring an area north of the US border, in the mountains and ice fields. Wolf, John, and their friend Ted Taylor are asked to hike through an unexplored river valley to see if it's possible to build a road from the Queen Charlotte Straits to the main camp.

During this 2-week hike through dense, virgin, old growth forest, Wolf and John come upon an ancient Indian site and the University of British Columbia which a team to verify their find.

As summer draws to a close Wolf and John return home to begin high school, but the adventure does not end there.
