Johnny Paycheck made the song Take This Job and Shove It famous and that is what Michael Edward Woodman did. But he also turned his back on a domineering, nagging wife and two bratty, entitled and ungrateful teenage children. He did not know where he was going but almost anything had to be better than the life he had walked away from widow and orphan.
Michael Woodman was a decent, hard-working but self-effacing college professor who suffered years of verbal abuse from parents, wife, children and colleagues. Deciding that he had had enough of being scorned, overlooked and ignored at College and home, he left everything and headed off across America. On his travels, Michael decided that he would do his best to right some of the wrongs he saw and started to randomly kill people using an arcane method, leaving no clues and baffling the police and the FBI who are trying to follow the tracks of the unknown but highly efficient killer.
Michael’s wife becomes romantically involved with a multi-millionaire department store owner who sets his head of security to find the errant husband. The FBI and security chief hook up and jointly pursue the elusive professor but for different reasons.
Michael eventually lands up in a small town and becomes involved in the lives of the people there and stops killing but the search for him continues. Mishap after mishap dogs the efforts of the FBI and security chief until the FBI in Washington calls off the search.
