Jack hadn’t made a sound from the bedroom and Allison was still in her housecoat when Emi clutched the Bible to her chest and dashed out the door. Running down the ramp she collided with Matt who had just turned the corner on the walk. He was dressed up, his Bible under his arm, obviously on his way to church. To keep the two of them from toppling onto the pavement, Matt grabbed Emi’s upper arms and held on.
Oh! Emi whispered, embarrassed. Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t see you.
Hesitantly, Matt asked, Are… are you, um, going to church, Emi?
Yes! Emi exclaimed and held up the Bible. Um, I read this all night…, her words petered out as Matt stared at her incredulously.
Really? Wow! Matt licked his lips and looked down at the pretty woman. Wanna go with me? I’ll introduce you around.
Emilyn looked at Matt, then swallowed and whispered, I guess it’s alright, thanks. Even so, she knew there was only one person she wanted to see.
