Shea Andrews is excited to start her Christmas vacation with her best friend, Kristen in Malta, an island off the coast of Italy. They have been saving and planning for this trip for a long time and the time has finally come, but when she wakes up the morning of their departure and can’t get in touch with Kristen, she begins to worry. As she arrives at the airport, she discovers Kristen, although regretful, is no longer going with her. Shea decides to take the trip on her own after waiting so long for the day to come and putting all her money into it.
Michael Foster accompanies his brother Daryl to the airport after changing his plans to go on his honeymoon to Malta with him when his brother was unexpectedly left at the altar. Packed and ready for the trip, he tries to support him and cheer him up any way he can. As they get closer to boarding the plane, his brother becomes more and more reluctant, finally deciding he can’t go on this trip. As Michael turns to leave with him, Daryl stops him, insisting he still go and enjoy the trip. After all, he can no longer get a refund, someone should have fun. Michael hesitantly agrees, feeling as if he’s making the wrong decision. He should be with his family, especially during the holidays.
As Michael settles into his seat, his doubt creeps further in just as Shea arrives, talking into her phone as she takes the seat next to him. He looks up at her scowling in displeasure. Shea’s happiness and positive attitude are too much for him after the difficult week, and even tougher year, he’s endured. As Shea and Michael keep bumping into each other, they both find themselves curious. Will one small slip and one big leap bring them closer together than either of them expected? Or are they destined to only see one another while on their Christmas vacation in Malta?
