The City of Illux is besieged by two armies, each vying to be the first to breach the walls. Inside, Castille, the newly-made Seraph, has risen and taken control of the city with an iron fist. Edmund, once Captain of the City Watch is now a prisoner of the new regime. During his internment, he watches in horror as Castille and his loyalists slaughter innocents and nearly allow the city to fall to the enemy. Meanwhile, a rogue Paladin with connections to those in power continues a bloody crusade for justice from the shadows, possibly proving to be the hero the people of Illux need.

Across the Mortal Plane, the army from Seatown marches with Ren and her surviving companions, hoping that they can reach the beleaguered city before it is too late. Forsaken by the remaining Gods of Light, Ren vows to save Illux at all costs and free her people from the Light that abandoned them in their time of need. Though she remains steadfast in her convictions, she mourns the loss of Trent, her lover and fellow Seraph.

Gods fall and new powers rise during these final throes of the millennia-spanning war between Light and Darkness which will leave the Mortal Plane changed forever.
