This volume presents the results of linguistic research in southeastern Chiapas from both a descriptive and a historical perspective. The languages considered are Tzeltal, Tojolabal, Chuj, Jacaltec, Motozintlec (Mocho), Mam, Teco, Chicomuceltec, Chiapanec, Nahua, Tapachultec, Quiche, and others, as well as the extinct languages of Coxoh, Cabil, Cotoque, and others that were still in use in the Colonial period.
