Destinies: Issues to Shape our Future

A series of thoughtful essays that focus on the role of technology in the survival of our society. Written by the editor of Taking Sides textbooks for McGraw-Hill. The issues addressed in this book also involve choices we must make, whether we do so voluntarily or not. As just one example, we must at some point decide what the optimum human population is for Planet Earth. Failure to address the question means that population will keep growing until Mother Nature slaps us up the side of the head by unleashing plague, famine, and war. According to some analysts, that moment is imminent. Unfortunately, population is one topic no one wants to address. As the author notes, I am not trying to predict the future. Rather, I am saying that here are the directions in which these issues are trending, and that we don’t have to go there. We have choices. Written in a conversational style, these works will educate, amuse, and inspire to to look harder at the decisions we see being made by, and for, us. Issues too important to leave without honest discussion of consequences of both action and inaction.
