Song of an Ordinary Perfume
Sara Mohammadi Ardehali
Sara Mohammadi Ardehali was born and raised in Tehran. She is a poet and author, who has published four poetry collections in Persian. She studied sociology, and, besides poetry, she has written several books for young adults that convey complex ideas and theories of twentieth-century literary figures to make their work accessible to younger readers. Although her poems have appeared in English anthologies, Song of an Ordinary Perfume is her first collection in English.
Sara's contemporary verse is informed by her profound appreciation and knowledge of classical Persian poetry. Her masterful and vivid use of language intensifies the scents, the imagery, and the symbolisms of her poems.
Mojdeh Bahar's excellent English translations in this English-Persian bilingual edition present us with a poet who is a keen, kind, and caring observer, who has the compassion needed to make life better-more palatable.
