"Haiti Cherie" ("Beloved Haiti") is a traditional patriotic song of Haiti, which was based on a poem written by Othello Bayard. It was initially called Souvenir d'Haiti ("Memory of Haiti"), and was composed to music in 1925. It is widely considered as a second national anthem, and one of Haiti's most famous meringues.
The extract of the song presented in this book was translated by the publisher to reflect the meaning behind the words in the spirit of bilingualism.
