Many churches are struggling with a worship disorder. Even contemporary churches. We often seek to put together services that honor God and yet often try to evaluate them by observing the amount of engagement by the congregation. Unfortunately, raised hands and emotional responses are not the measure of true worship.
So what would a church service look like if God designed it?
Actually, he already did! Hebrews 8:5 says the tabernacle was a pattern of what is already in heaven. It was the center of Jewish worship and Jesus is the fulfillment of that tabernacle.
Worship (dis)Order connects Old and New Testament worship through the tabernacle to see the pattern for worship that God designed for us. Within the tabernacle we experience God’s holiness, mercy, forgiveness, and, ultimately, His restoration.
When we worship from God’s point of view, He is glorified and we are changed-but without the often-used gimmicks and hype that draw people to themselves rather than God.
