A silvery glow like moonlight filtered down the stairs, but as they advanced, Nelson could see that the light rippled, as though shining down through water. Things seemed to move at the edge of his vision, and he felt something tiny and soft brush against his hand. He drew back momentarily, then forged on toward the stairs.The rippling light intensified for a moment, and suddenly a swarm of - something - zoomed down the stairs.
