In 1950, Inspector Arthur Barkley Carroll, a relatively young man for his position at Scotland Yard, boasted a highly prestigious education from Eton and Oxford. He had inherited a small fortune, an impressive home in London, and a 1929 Rolls Royce Phantom, and he was single.

While attending a luxurious charity dinner, he was called by his associate, Sergeant John Brown, to a murder scene on The London Bridge. The time was nearly midnight, and the air was thick with a London mist. She is famous, wealthy, and frustrated that Arthur doesn't view her in that way. However, as time goes on, things work out for both of them.
