In Southwest Mexico, a Fire Giant lives in a volcano. A Fire Giant with a secret.

Lupita lives near a volcano. This year has been a year of changes. Lupita's great-grandmother stopped speaking. The volcano became more active. And Lupita's own power is awakening.

Lupita struggles to concentrate on her homework, with her loud family. She struggles at school because she is shy and Nilda steals her lunch money every day. One day, her anger and frustration awaken ancient magic. She accidentally sets her homework on fire. Her new power threatens to flame out of control.

The only one who can help her is the Fire Giant. He lives in the nearby volcano and has a secret. Humans have made him angry by littering the tree-filled path. When he feels the humans have gone too far, he threatens to destroy Lupita's town by erupting the volcano and covering the town in lava.

Now it's up to Lupita to use all she understands about fire and friendship to stop the Fire Giant from destroying her town.
