Raymond Wall Greenlaw lived his dreams. They served as a compass. From hiking the Triple-Crown to earning a PhD in computer science to visiting every European country to working with Paul Allen (co-founder Microsoft) to diving Truk Lagoon to publishing 35+ books to competing in Ironman-distance triathlons in four decades to pioneering accreditation criteria for cybersecurity to cycling the Race across America solo to visiting all US states to finishing ten Boston Marathons to climbing the highest peaks on six continents to achieving the Grand-Slam of ultra-running to becoming a PADI scuba-dive instructor, he checked off a jaw-dropping diversity of 2,100+ bucket-list items. His journey covered 3,200,000+ miles. He’s beyond inspiration.

When My Light Goes Out

I dove, caught, hit, kicked, swung, and biked. I ran, threw, jumped, played tennis, and hiked. Canoed, fished, kayaked, and swam at the lake. Never stopped to count the candles on my cake. Everything I knew, I did and I liked.

I love the mountains, nature, and trees. I love the feeling of a warm, gentle breeze. I learned and explained and taught and graded. Through discovery and adventures life never felt jaded. Thank you and please I said from my knees.

I saw the world because I liked to look. My life’s a gift I never mistook. Rejoice with me friends as I say goodbye. The trip’s been wonderful so do not cry. A gust and poof, there goes my book.
