Peter G.Thomson came to the western North Carolina mountains more than a hundred years ago in search of a proper site to build his mammoth pulp mill. This book contains the story of the building of the Champion Fibre Company at Canton, North Carolina between 1905 and 1908. Also included are many old construction photographs that illustrate the immense effort that took place on the bank of the Pigeon River.
