-This book is a compilation of information and songs used to teach concepts about the plants and animals of Mission Trails and all San Diego parks. The factual information provided reflects much of the content covered in my classes, including vocabulary. If given the opportunity, even the very youngest children will learn to identify flora and fauna and interesting information about them. If children can say dinosaur, they can say nocturnal, carnivore and more! The FAST FACTS provide a physical description of each animal, its habitat (home), the foods it eats (prey) and who eats them (predators), illustrations of tracks and scat, and signs of their presence. It is important to stress that ALL living things have a place in our world, a reason for being on Earth; occasionally I include, -How They Help Us-. Also, times of the day and year when, and places along San Diego trails where, various fauna, or signs of their presence, are most apt to be seen, are in the section, -When and Where-. This, in addition to the illustrations of the flora and fauna, may help the reader successfully locate and observe these things on their own, independent of my classes. My SONGS use melodies of well-known children’s songs; titles are in parentheses and musical scores are provided. I have written new lyrics to help children remember fun facts about each of the flora and fauna presented in this book. Also included are lovely illustrations to help children visualize and remember those details from the SONGS and the FAST FACTS pages.—
