A field notebook is an important tool used by research scientists–a place where they record ideas, observations, and experiments. Tess and the Mystery Rock Field Notebook allows kids to create their own field notebook and participate in storytelling by making observations and completing supplemental experiments that support the concepts taught in the Tess and the Mystery Rock reader. The Thought Stops from the reader are included in the Field Notebook along with additional questions, experiments, and space for drawing and writing. Interdisciplinary learning is incorporated with a unit of writing added to the reading and science units.
