My inspiration for writing my first book, A Garment of Praise, came after the Lord sent me to Southern Maryland to participate in a twelve-step program designed to free people from codependency. Very late in life I had come to realize that I was responsible for many of my children’s problems. I had been their worst enemy, enabling them to be less than their true potential. And, for far too long, I had been walking in denial and trying to play God, thinking that I could fix things I now realized were beyond my power to change. Celebrate Recovery taught me so much about codependency. In the process of going through the Celebrate Recovery program, I was taught to journal, and it was in this way that I discovered my love for writing. That was a revelation that led to the books that have blessed so many. How ironic! I was 78 when my first book was published, and I was just discovering the most important reason I had been born. - Darlene Graves
