Angelina Davis’ remarkable work, The Jackson Journal, gives us a background of the Jackson family never before published. From Humphrey Jackson and his forbearers to Angelina’s own great-great-grandfather, James Jackson, and his descendants, this publication has pursued the history of the family with diligence and dedication. In so doing, she has also reached out to other families whose names appear in the journal. Her research of these people, including my own family, has amazed me just as Jackson family members, themselves knowledgeable, will be amazed. I can say Angelina has accomplished her ambition as stated in the preface and she has done so with honors. It is said that a historian/genealogist appears in each generation of most families. I believe Angelina Davis occupies this position in the Jackson family as a member of the present generation. I also have no doubt that the late Mary Jean Jackson Abshier, a family historian of the past generation, would gladly pass the torch to Angelina. In fact, I believe she did. Thus the rich history of the Jackson and other families of Chambers and surrounding counties will indeed be preserved.
