The mountainous land of Evrytania, a province in central Greece, has an illustrious history. Although Evrytanians are justifiably proud of this history from Ottoman times, World War II, and up to the present, many people are unaware that this history is in fact much more ancient. This book states that the region was first settled around 5,000 years ago, and describes the first Evrytanians, their customs, and their first king, Evrytos, after whom the Evrytanians are named. The book also describes how the people of Evrytania fought and won existential battles to save the entire Greek people, not just their civilization, in 279 BC. As this book explains, if the Evrytanians had lost these battles, the Greek nation would have been lost. Especially instrumental were the brave women of Evrytania!
