Poetry and Global Compassion

In the third volume of his series of poems on compassion, Professor Pietroni focuses specifically on the concept of global compassion. He writes, I define Global Compassion in a manner that describes our relation to our environment, to nature, to the sky and to the sea, to the earth and its various species. For many other cultures, this is the central focus of their lives, and it shapes and determines how they live. We are in the midst of major debates regarding climate change. The ice is rapidly melting in the North Pole, the coral is disappearing in the South Sea, the air is polluted by the burning of fossil fuel, and microplastics are found in the fish we eat .

Ecopoetry is now a rapidly expanding genre that addresses these challenges. Contributions include poems by Ronald Higgins, Ann Selby, Ernest Haekel, Naomi Klein, and numerous others.
