Heart’s Hunger
Karen Press
Trader in hungers,
she grew strong
And everything that could be eaten, was eaten
She was bricks, words, skin, bread.
She was fire, milk, the road, the shade.
Her roof stretched wide across the city.
In her doorway people embraced.
The moon grew thinner and thinner watching over the wastelands of her abundance
