Mr. Jenkins has recently relocated from Burnaby, British Columbia to Linden, Ontario. He is sitting in the restaurant in the Bayshore Hotel enjoying a quiet Sunday night alone when he is unexpectedly greeted by a young woman who joins him at his table and says: Pretend I’m with you. Fleeing from danger, she has selected good old Bill Jenkins to be her protector.Rising to the occasion, Bill introduces himself and is rewarded by her response of Kate . After she has a little nourishment, they proceed to his hotel room and the latest adventure starts. As a well-known author of a series of Case of mystery stories, Bill is not surprised that Kate has sought him out, although he does have difficulty getting her to acknowledge his fame and stature as an internationally acclaimed author. Bill decides to document Kate’s investigation and offers to share her apartment as he does so.When Kate’s partner disappears and Kate herself is kidnapped, Bill calls on all his experience to carry on the work. As a former I.T. expert (a.k.a. computer guy) he investigates C.S.I.S., External Affairs, R.C.M.P. and a large, seemingly reputable, real estate company by getting assigned to replace an I.T. manager out due to covid-19.Although the story gets a little boring as Bill explores A.I., neural networks, big data and other computer-related subjects, he eventually completes the investigation and publishes his findings in Edition 1 of this book. This version, Edition 2, includes the impact of the Canadian Judicial system whose members are not amused by the revelations of Edition 1.As the first in a series of Case of stories for adults, as opposed to the earlier ones intended for middle school kids, this yarn will be welcomed by the many middle school kids now reaching adulthood as well as by those many fearless detectives whose efforts on behalf of western civilization often go unacknowledged and even, sometimes, unrewarded.
