Dromedary Dreaming

Rex Ellis

Dromedary Dreaming is Rex Ellis’ tenth book, and like many of his others, a mix of fascinating subjects, mostly outback related.

The five major topics are an account of how he managed to get his paddlewheeler, the Dromedary on the Darling River to Wilcannia, on a river these days that is used more for irrigation than navigation.

His involvement in the reinstating of the “Marree Man’ is covered in great detail. The controversial Marree Man is often described as the world’s second largest artform.

Walking across South Australia’s salt lakes is not something most people would look to do, but Rex and a couple of mates have been doing this for several years to raise money for some of Australia’s endangered birds. The account gives a greater understanding of these dramatic land forms. Described also, is an account of how he came by some land in the Flinders Ranges, including a hundred acres he swapped for a camel!

He also includes a number of his write-ups for his regular "Campfires and Crows’ column in regional newspapers.

His racy, humorous, and often provocative narrative will easily hold the attention of the reader.
