The saga tells of the tenth-century Icelandic poet Cormac, and of the love of his life, his betrothed, Steingerd. After a curse makes him late to his wedding, and Steingerd marrying another he follows King Harald to Ireland and on many other expeditions.

Full of poetry attributed to Cormac this saga is believed to have been one of the earliest composed.
