Jurgen Schadeberg was born in Berlin in 1931 and while still in his teens, worked as an apprentice photographer for a German press agency in Hamburg. In 1950 he immigrated to South Africa and became Chief Photographer, Picture Editor and Art Director of Drum magazine. Since then he has been working in an about South Africa, capturing pivotal images on film. This book is a visual exploration of the unique social landscape in South Africa during the nineteen fifties.
